MyMarathon - Take on Marathon Distance in May

I’ve been taking part in The British Heart Foundation’s MyMarathon challenge. The aim of this challenge is to complete 26.2 miles/c42.2K, marathon distance, throughout May and there is flexibility to complete the challenge at your own pace in one go, across a few days or the month.

Run for your health

I first got into fitness because of my heart, I had an incident where I had to go to A&E and undergo tests and since then I’ve tried to make my health more of a priority. This has meant me focusing on keeping active and eating more wholesome foods.

Did you know running is great for your heart? It helps increase the strength of your heart which could reduce the likelihood of getting a heart condition. I’ve felt fitter and stronger over the course of the challenge and find my running technique and ability to pace myself improving.

For the challenge

There is flexibility to run the marathon in one go or at your own pace across the month.

I choose to split the distance into a mix of short and long runs off-road in the park, which resulted in new PBs for 5K (25:01) and 10K (58:22).

With challenges like these I think it’s key to set an overall goal/plan for completing the challenge and using all the necessary tools to help you along the way. Fitness apps like Nike Running Club and FitBit came in handy for tracking activity and Spotify running playlists helped keep me motivated - I would highly recommend these.

For the cause

All donations help The British Heart Foundation power life saving heart research. I am aiming to raise £150 which could help one of The British Heart Foundation’s early career researchers carry out a day-and-a half of research. Check out my everyday hero MyMarathon fundraising page here and please donate if you can to help support this fantastic charity.

You can learn more about the MyMarathon challenge here and how our money helps here.

Did you take part in MyMarathon or any other fitness challenges this May? I’d love to know! Let me know in the comments.
