Sustainable Natural Beauty: Ethique and Beauty Kitchen - Review

I love shopping for and trying out new beauty products if you haven’t already guessed… However, I’ve been a bit more selective in my purchases lately and trying to use up products in my stash before going out to buy more. I picked up two new sustainable natural beauty products from Holland and Barrett, Beauty Kitchen’s Organic Vegan Body Wash and Ethique’s Solid Face Scrub, so thought I'd share my thoughts on these eco-friendly products. I’ve seen both products all over social and the beauty press so had them on my list of products to try.

Are you considering purchasing products from Beauty Kitchen and Ethique? Keep reading to find out more about the ingredients, product performance and benefits of the products which I’ve tried so far...

Beauty Kitchen The Sustainables Organic Vegan Body Wash Botanic Bliss

This organic vegan body wash from British brand, Beauty Kitchen, is infused with over 100% naturally derived ingredients like sunflower oil, coconut oil, olive oil, rosemary, eucalyptus and sweet orange peel for sustainable beauty.

I love the fact that all elements of the packaging is reusable and recyclable. Yep that’s right…

…from the pump, to the aluminium bottle and water resistant rock paper label!

You can return the packaging to Beauty Kitchen for it to be refilled and reused (instead of going to a landfill). Learn more here. Also, if you return the bottle to Holland and Barrett and you have one of their rewards card you get £1 added to your card.

Alternatively, Boots Covent Gardens currently have a Beauty Kitchen refill station where you can take your empty bottle in store and refill them if you are located near the store or in the area...

Back to the product… Beauty Kitchen The Sustainables Organic Vegan Body Wash Botanic Bliss (£8, 300ml) smells very herbal and aromatic. I find it provides a decent lather and is super refreshing and invigorating. This body wash is perfect after a run or in the morning for a boost!

Ethique Gingersnap Solid Face scrub

Another brand that’s paving the way for natural beauty is a New Zealand brand called Ethique (french for ethical). Ethique is the world's most sustainable lifestyle brand, vegan, palm oil free and plastic free and they have a wide range of beauty bars for the face, hair and body.

I’ve had my eyes on Ethique since launch and was excited to see their products in my local store which is a small store but the shelves were stacked with Ethique beauty! I had to resist buying one of everything… I picked up the Solid Face Scrub because I was out of face scrub.

Ethique’s Gingersnap Solid Face Scrub (£12.99, 100g) is made with brown sugar, ginger and cinnamon (sounds yummy right). In the box there are four mini oval face scrub bars. These would be perfect for travelling! Also, it’s equivalent to 3 x 150ml plastic bottles and saves 1.2 litres of water. I thought the Face Scrub bar would all melt away when I used it but not at all  - it still stays in tact after multiple uses.

In terms of how to use Ethique’s Gingersnap Face Scrub, you simply need to wet your face and an oval bar of the scrub with warm water then gently buff in circular motions. Next, once the product is on your skin, put the bar down and massage the scrub into your skin until the brown sugar has dissolved then rinse with warm water.

On application Ethique’s Gingersnap Solid Face Scrub is creamy but you can feel the exfoliating brown sugar, it lathers well and has a nice subtle comforting scent which isn’t overpowering. It left my skin feeling soft and not stripped. Before using Ethique’s Gingersnap Solid Face Scrub I hadn’t used a ‘solid’ face scrub but this looks set to be one of my new faves.

Final Thoughts on Ethique and Beauty Kitchen

There is no denying that we all need to be more eco-conscious and do our best to help look after our planet. Beauty Kitchen and Ethique are paving the way and have a good range of sustainable natural beauty products to choose from. Both are a bit pricey but given that they are more environmentally friendly I don’t mind paying a bit more. Also, in the case of Ethique, they only use biodegradable, naturally derived, sustainable and fair trade ingredients and they do not use any palm oil in their products and they alternatives used are more expensive.

Price aside I am really enjoying the Organic Vegan Body Wash and Gingersnap Face Scrub as both work well and hope to explore products more from both brands!

Have you tried any of products from Beauty Kitchen or Ethique before? Let me know in the comments.
