Best Products of 2019 for 4C Hair

Happy New Year! Hope you’ve all had a great start to 2020! Last year, I had the chance to try out and discover a few new natural hair products so I’ve compiled a quick round-up of my faves from 2019. These all worked great on my natural 4c hair and I plan to continue using them this year on my journey of length retention and healthy hair. From shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners, leave-in, hair oils to stylers read on for my best natural hair products of 2019 for 4c hair…

Best Natural Hair Products of 2019 for 4C Hair

Best Shampoo/Cleanser

I have three very different favourite cleansers/shampoos in this category but all do a nice job at cleansing without stripping hair your hair.

Camille Rose Naturals Ginger Rinse

This gentle cleanser has a beautiful subtle scent and contains ginger root and aniseed to cleanse, clarify and leave hair and scalp moisturised. I’ve since added a targeted nozzle to the bottle of this shampoo to help reach my scalp better.

As I Am Long and Luxe GroWash Cleansing Creme Conditioner

I really like this creamy cleansing conditioner (UK, US), it’s infused with pomegranate and passion fruit, smells divine, detangles and nourishes hair and scalp. It’s perfect in the colder weather and for a midweek refresh.

Flora and Curl Curl Refresh Clay Wash

Last but by no means least, Flora and Curl Curl Refresh Clay Wash, a blend of natural ingredients such as bentonite clay, rhassoul clay, coconut and banana as well as peppermint and eucalyptus oil, this multi-purpose product does such a fab job and cleansing and conditioning my hair. I love the concept of this product as it involves a bit of DIY.

Best Conditioner/Deep Conditioner

As I Am Long and Luxe Conditioner

Like the GroWash, As I Am Long and Luxe Conditioner is strengthening and hydrating hair treatment is infused with pomegranate and passion fruit to promote healthy hair growth.

Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioning Mask

On the other hand, Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioner is one of the best deep conditioners I have every used (and I have used quite a few…), formulated with nourishing shea, mango and cocoa butters and growth stimulating biotin it does hair a lot of good!

I love both of these conditioners because they are extremely moisturising, strengthening and leave my kinky coily hair poppin. You do get a bit more product in the As I Am Conditioner though...

Best Leave-In Conditioner

In terms of Leave-In Conditioners, like the previous categories I couldn’t choose just one. My three favourite leave-in conditioners of 2019 for type 4 hair are Camille Rose Naturals Coconut Water Leave-In, As I Am Long and Luxe Gro Yogurt and Palmer’s Natural Fusions Leave-In Conditioner.

Camille Rose Naturals Coconut Water Leave-In Detangling Treatment

This leave-in conditioner from Camille Rose is enriched with fruit extracts and is very versatile and can also be used as a co-wash/cleansing conditioner.

As I Am Long and Luxe GroYogurt Leave-In Conditioner

The As I am Long and Luxe Leave-In Conditioner contains similar key ingredients to the companion products in this particular range but worked best for me on wet hair.

Palmer’s Natural Fusions Mallow-Root Leave-In Conditioner

Lastly, if you are looking for a more lightweight leave-in spritz then try out the Natural Fusions Mallow Root Leave-In Conditioner from Palmer’s - it’s packed with 95% naturally sourced ingredients and the spray applicator makes it a lovely curl referesher in between wash days.

Best Hair Oil

Palmer’s Natural Fusions Cermaide Monoi Hair Food Oil

When it came to hair oils, I reached for Palmer’s Natural Fusions Hair Food Oil the most in 2019. It’s up there with one of my all time favourites - Mielle Organics Mint Almond Oil. This hair oil contains hydro-ceramides (a key component of our hair) as well as monoi, argan, avocado, shea and coconut oils. A little goes a long way with this hair food oil and it can be used as a pre-shampoo treatment, oil rinse or even to superboost hair masks.

Best Styler/Hair Butter

Camille Rose Naturals Curlaide Moisture Butter

Lastly, my favourite styler from 2019 is Camille Rose Naturals Curlaide Moisture Butter whilst this wasn’t new to the market in 2019, it was new to me and my hair soak it up... Providing a soft hold, green tea, jojoba, rice milk and sweet vanilla notes. I’m a bit light on stylers in this post because to be honest my hair was generally only in two canerows, a classic fro, a high buff or twist out in 2019… I’ll try to experiment more in 2020 but sometimes less is really more if you are after length retention on your healthy hair journey.

I hope you found this post useful. You can find most of the products mentioned on LOOKFANTASTIC UK. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2020! What were your favourite natural hair products from 2019 and your hair goals for this year? I’d love to know! Let me know in the comment section...
